5 Minute Make-up to Make You Feel Like a Human Again

Okay, if you’re like me, make-up is just a part of your normal every day routine. Without it, you feel like you haven’t fully got ready for the day, like you’re not even 100% awake, amirite?!

Regardless, even if you’re not a huge make-up person, I personally find it to be amazing how much better it can make you feel, even energize you, when you look and feel a little bit better. YOU’RE WORTH IT! So, take just 5 minutes for yourself every day and follow this quick, easy guide for make-up that is just enough to make you feel like a human again (and not cringe when you look in the mirror – undereye circles anyone?)

Step 1 – Even Skintone

Use a BB Cream, like this one, all over the face to even skintone and prep your canvas. BB creams (short for beauty balm) are a great alternative to foundation because they’re lighter weight while still providing coverage, they can act as a skin brightener, and some even have SPF in them! Plus, anything you can apply with your hands saves time! #winning

30-45 seconds – You can use as little or as much BB Cream as you’d like depending on the coverage you need. Just squirt it on your fingertips (I even put a little primer and mix it together), rub together with your other hand, and then spread it all over your face and even down your neck and chest to create an even, flawless canvas.

Step 2 – Conceal Blemishes

BB Cream is amazing, but it won’t cover everything. So, use a good quality cover up in a shade lighter for any under eye circles (yes, moms, it’s kind of hard to avoid with these sleepless nights) – I really like this concealer because it covers WAY more with much less product = less money AND time saved! YAY! I also really like a concealer with salicylic acid in it for blemishes, like like this one from Almay, because it helps cover and heal at the same time!

45-60 seconds (it all depends on how many blemishes you need to cover) – you can use your (clean) fingers to dab it on where needed or a foundation brush like this one.

Step 3 – Add Dimension

Now you need to seal in all the goodness you just completed and create some dimension in your face by doing some very basic highlighting and/or contouring. Don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it after a while and it will go quicker OR you can just add blush for this step and move on.

40- 50 seconds: You can easily highlight with the same concealer you used for under your eyes by just dragging it down a little farther on the tops of your cheek bones (see photo —>).        Then, I would sweep some loose powder all over to create a nice matte finish OR a pressed powder foundation for more coverage (if needed).                                    Next, use a nice bronzer like this one and quickly swipe it in the hollows of your cheeks, on your temples, and under your chin. (You can even keep going down the sides of your neck and on your chest if you want an overall bronzed look.)

Finally, quickly sweep some color on those cheeks and BOOM – you’re looking less like a zombie and more like you have blood still pumping through your veins! I recommend using a blush with good pigment in it like these. They may look scary bright, but that just means that you barely have to use any at all to get good color. Again, this means it will last longer AND it will take less time going back and forth with the blush brush trying to get some color!

Step 4 – Brows

You may think that brows aren’t important enough to waste your time on, but they are the frame for your eyes and without them… you may end up still feeling incomplete. I fight with my brows all the time, they just never end up looking the same shape, color, or fullness somehow – ughh, so frustrating! So, I actually try and tint them as much as possible using an eyebrow tint like this one. It usually lasts a couple weeks and keeps me from having to fill in my brows ALL THE TIME.

40 seconds – If you don’t want to tint or you’re in between, you can either get a good eyebrow pencil like this one (it has an awesome brush attached so you don’t have to have yet another tool) OR you can actually just use an angled brush like this one and some dark colored eye shadow. I use the light and dark browns in this awesome palette for my brows, eyeliner, and eye shadow. Plus, the other colors are awesome and you can use them for the next step…

 Step 5 – Eyes

Even just the bare minimum here can go a long way with brightening your eyes and making you look more awake and alert. A natural look is the easiest and looks good with everything.

70 seconds – First, I start by brightening up the eye with a light, shimmery color like this one (angelic, curious, or sexy work great) OR the brassy in the Palette #1 you can use for your brows. Don’t want to mess with another makeup brush? Try a cream shadow like this one in “elegant” OR I’m a huge fan of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Cream shadows, but they’re quite a bit more expensive. Either way, this will brighten up the eye by drawing light there. If you’re going for more shadow, stick with neutrals like browns for an easy, everyday look.

Most importantly, add mascara – this will open up your eyes even more and give you a more finished look. A 3D Fiber Mascara, like this one, is going to give you the biggest volume (I actually don’t even use the fibers most of the time – the gel alone is WAY better than most other mascaras). OR, one of my other favorites is the Buxom Mascara. Again, good mascara may cost more, but you’re going to have to put on fewer coats which means it lasts longer and it saves you time!! You’re worth it! Just give it a try – here is a travel size if you want to be sure, too.

Optional Step 6 – Lips

Personally, I’m not a huge lip color person. I have experimented with it more lately, but I always feel like it makes me look older so I tend to stick with tinted lip balms, like this one, or a lip gloss. Because, you have to keep in mind, you’re probably going to be kissing you little ones a lot so you don’t want to leave them looking like they have ring worm (that was an actual scare one time when I was a kid, but it was lipstick, no joke). So, maybe a long-lasting lip stain, like this one, will work better if you simply MUST have some color on your lips.

30 Seconds – Just swipe whatever you fancy onto your lips and you’re done!

And, Voila! In about 5 minutes, you look like a human again, and might even feel like one too! My motto is that if “you look good, you play good” so if you want to have a successful day where you accomplish a lot and feel good about yourself – think about taking just 5 minutes for yourself to put your face on. Best part, you can add or subtract whatever you feel comfortable with or have time for (I recommend at the VERY least: cover up, blush, and mascara). You deserve to look good, momma, so go for it!
